Give feedback with Reviewer Mode
Pin comments to anything in Learning Studio, add an optional screenshot, and send your feedback to the NXGen team.
Reviewer Mode is for people invited to test Learning Studio itself. It pauses editing so you can explore safely, then lets you pin a comment to any part of the app: a button, a panel, a block on the course canvas. Your comments stay as drafts you can change until you send them.
Reviewer Mode is separate from course reviews. To comment on a course you’ve been invited to review, see Comment on a specific block.
Turn Reviewer Mode on
Section titled “Turn Reviewer Mode on”The Reviewer Mode switch appears in the top bar only for accounts invited to test Learning Studio. If you don’t see it, your account doesn’t have tester access.
- Turn on the Reviewer Mode switch in the top bar. On narrower screens the switch shows without its text label.
- A plum frame appears around the screen and the Reviewer Mode toolbar appears at the bottom.
- A short note, Break something?, explains the basics. Select Got it to close it. To read it again, select How Reviewer Mode works (the question mark) on the toolbar.
While Reviewer Mode is on, editing is paused: you can open courses, pages and panels, but changes to course content aren’t saved. If you try to edit, Learning Studio tells you, “Reviewer Mode is on, so editing is paused.” Reviewer Mode stays on if you reload the page, and the note appears again each time you turn the mode back on.
Browse or comment
Section titled “Browse or comment”The toolbar has two tools:
- Browse lets you move around the app as usual, so you can reach the screen you want to comment on.
- Comment freezes the app. As you move the pointer, the element under it is outlined and named. Clicking picks that element for a comment instead of using it.
Press C to switch between the two tools. In Comment, press Esc to return to Browse.
Section titled “Leave a comment”- Switch to Comment and click the part of the app you want to comment on. This works on disabled controls too, such as the canvas formatting buttons when no text is selected.
- In the comment box, write what’s wrong or what you expected to happen. The line above the box names the spot you picked, such as Page canvas › “Align right”.
- Select Save draft, or press Ctrl+Enter (Cmd+Enter on a Mac). Select Cancel or press Esc to discard the comment.
A numbered pin appears on the element. Draft pins are filled plum; sent pins are outlined. Select a pin to open its comment.
Comments can be up to 4,000 characters. If you leave the page with the comment box still open, the unsaved comment is discarded.
Include a screenshot
Section titled “Include a screenshot”When you pick an element, Learning Studio takes a picture of it with the area around it, with the element outlined. A small preview appears next to Include a screenshot, which is selected by default. Clear the checkbox to save the comment without the picture.
If a picture can’t be taken for that spot, the box shows Screenshot unavailable for this spot, and you can still save the comment. Embedded content from other sites may appear blank in screenshots.
Screenshots are private. To see one, open the comment and select View screenshot. Select the image to open it full size in a new tab.
Edit or delete a draft
Section titled “Edit or delete a draft”You can change a comment as often as you like until you send it.
- To edit, open the comment and select Edit, change the text, then select Save.
- To delete, select Delete, then confirm with Delete, or select Keep to leave it. Deleting a draft also deletes its screenshot.
Sent comments can’t be edited or deleted.
Review your comments in My feedback
Section titled “Review your comments in My feedback”Select My feedback on the toolbar (the list icon with your comment count) to see every comment you’ve left, grouped under Unsent drafts and Sent. Each entry shows where you left it, the text, when it was saved or sent, and its screenshot if it has one. You can edit or delete drafts here too.
Select Show on page to go to that comment’s page. Learning Studio scrolls to the element, outlines it, marks its pin and opens the comment beside it. On wider screens the list stays open and moves to the other side of the screen if it would cover the element; on phones it closes so you can see the page. If the element is no longer on the page, the comment opens anyway with a short notice.
Send your feedback
Section titled “Send your feedback”While you have unsent drafts, the Send button on the toolbar pulses and shows how many are waiting. Select Send to send all of them to the NXGen team in one message, with each comment’s location, page link and screenshot. A confirmation shows how many comments were sent.
Sent comments are final: they move to Sent in My feedback and can’t be changed or removed. If you want to add something, leave a new comment.
Turn Reviewer Mode off
Section titled “Turn Reviewer Mode off”Turn off the Reviewer Mode switch in the top bar, or select Turn off Reviewer Mode (the X) on the toolbar.
If you have unsent drafts, Learning Studio asks Send your feedback first? before leaving:
- Send and exit sends your drafts, then turns Reviewer Mode off.
- Keep as drafts turns Reviewer Mode off and keeps your drafts for next time.
- Stay in Reviewer Mode keeps the mode on.
With nothing unsent, Reviewer Mode turns off straight away. Editing works again once it’s off.
Move the toolbar
Section titled “Move the toolbar”If the toolbar covers something you want to see, drag it by its grip, the dotted handle labelled Move toolbar at its left end. Learning Studio remembers where you put it on this browser.
You can also select the grip and move the toolbar with the arrow keys; hold Shift to move it further. Press Home, or double-click the grip, to put it back at the bottom centre.
Availability and limits
Section titled “Availability and limits”- The Reviewer Mode switch appears only for invited testers and the NXGen team. Every comment action is checked again on the server.
- Comments are limited to 4,000 characters. Screenshots are private and shown through short-lived links.
- Course packages don’t include Reviewer Mode comments or screenshots.
